What Is Raindrop Therapy? Oils, Process and What to Expect

We offer quality massage services to fit the needs of all of our clients.
What to Expect During Your Session

Raindrop Therapy is one of the more unusual services on our menu, and one of the most relaxing. If you’ve seen it listed and wondered what it actually involves, here’s a simple explanation.

What Is Raindrop Therapy?

Raindrop Therapy is a session that combines essential oils with light, rhythmic touch on the back and feet. The name comes from the technique of letting oils fall like drops of rain along the spine before they’re gently worked in. At Focused Care, it uses nine Young Living essential oils applied in a set sequence.

How a Session Works

  1. Intake: your therapist checks for allergies, sensitivities and anything that would make essential oils a poor fit.
  2. Along the spine: oils are dropped above the spine and worked in with light, feathery strokes.
  3. Layering: each oil is added in turn, followed by soft, rhythmic massage.
  4. The feet: oils are also applied to the feet with gentle, focused touch.

The touch is light, not deep. It’s designed to be soothing rather than to work out knots.

What Does It Feel Like?

Most people describe it as calming and warming, with a strong, pleasant aroma. Some oils feel cool or tingly on the skin at first. Because the pressure is light, it’s a good choice if you want to relax without deep work.

What Raindrop Therapy Is and Isn’t

Raindrop Therapy is best thought of as a relaxation and self-care experience. You may see big health claims online about detoxing or curing illness; those claims aren’t supported by strong scientific evidence. If you have a medical condition, it should be one part of a broader plan with your healthcare provider.

Who Should Avoid Essential Oils or Check First?

  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Anyone with sensitive skin, eczema or known allergies to plants or fragrances
  • People with asthma or sensitivity to strong scents
  • People with epilepsy or certain medical conditions, or those taking certain medications

Tell your therapist about any of these during intake. A light integrative massage or foot reflexology session may be a better fit.

Tips for Your Session

  • Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind smelling of oils on the way home.
  • Plan a quiet rest of the day if you can.
  • Drink water and avoid showering right away if you’d like the scent to linger.
